Just like the elephant everyone overlooked, there's something we often miss when trying to
understand behaviour.
That's why I wrote The Behaviour Chain Principle.
To help you recognise what others might be missing when behaviour doesn't make sense,
so that you can respond with greater understanding and confidence.

"The Behaviour Chain Principle helped me understand some of my challenging clients with special needs, and how to support them. The author has provided practical strategies with no fillers. It was a great read, highly recommended this book for anyone supporting people with special needs.

Joanne Eussen’s book has helped me develop a deeper understanding of the way people think, behave and respond, not only in my professional work but also in my everyday life. Learning more about how and why people behave the way they do has encouraged me to look beyond the behaviour itself and better understand what may be happening underneath. This deeper understanding has strengthened the way I support and connect with others, both personally and professionally. Joanne’s clinical perspective, combined with her own professional experience, brings everything together in a way that is practical, relatable and easy to understand. It makes this book a valuable and accessible read for anyone wanting to better understand human behaviour, not just those who work with people experiencing complex behaviours.

This book helped me understand the relevant processes that preceded a range of behaviours. Understanding this gives me the ability to manage myself and the situation. Very relevant and usable in the real world.

Instead of waiting for behaviour to tell you something is wrong, you'll learn to recognise the links building underneath it.
So that you can respond while there are still more options available.
When behaviour is understood as the final link in a chain, rather than the beginning of an event, everything about how we respond begins to change.
The question stops being:
why did this person behave this way?
It becomes:
what were the links that led here?
That question doesn't excuse behaviour, nor does it remove accountability.
It opens something more useful than judgement.
It opens understanding.

You'll learn to look beyond what someone is doing and consider environment, interpretation, memory, understanding, emotion and expectation.
So that your response is based on what may
actually be happening, rather than what
the behaviour looks like from the outside.
Two people can experience the same event
and respond completely differently.
What matters isn't only what happened.
It's how that event was interpreted through everything the person brought with them.
Their past experiences matter.
What they understood matters.
What they expected to happen matters.
So does the environment around them,
and the emotion already building within the chain.
Once you begin looking at behaviour this way, the question changes.
Instead of asking:
What's wrong with this person?
you begin asking:
What might be happening within their chain?
That's where curiosity replaces assumption,
and understanding becomes possible.

The Behaviour Chain gives you a practical way to slow the situation down, identify where pressure is building and consider where change may still be possible.
So that you can respond with greater confidence, make better decisions and reduce avoidable escalation.
Once you begin to recognise the links in the chain,
behaviour can start to make more sense.
it's still challenging to sit with, to respond to,
or to manage in the moment when the pressure is real
and the options feel limited.
But you begin to recognise that you're part of the interaction too.
Your words, expectations, emotions and responses can influence
what happens next.
That creates an opportunity to respond differently.
You can slow things down, reconsider what you're seeing and choose
your response with greater purpose.
And that's the difference.
(And no, it's not a gimmick.)
I'm giving the book away for free. All you pay is the cost of printing, fulfilment and postage.
Not a penny more.
Why am I doing this?
Because I'm a saint.
But really, there are two reasons I'm doing this.
First, I spent years managing psychosocial crisis presentations from the community that could have been avoided.
I'm doing this because I don't want you to waste years of your life doing this! I've already done the legwork for you. I'd rather you learn the Framework, and manage behaviour before it escalates into crisis.
I'm doing this because I've experienced the power of the framework firsthand. It's changed my life, and my only regret is that I didn't learn it earlier!
Therefore, my goal is to get this book into
as many hands as possible.
The second reason I'm selling this book at cost is because I know by transforming your life, you may become interested in other things I share that will transform you even further!
That's all.
I know The Behaviour Chain Principle will change your life, and I can't wait for you to read it!

Meet the Woman Challenging the Way We Understand Behaviour

Joanne Eussen is a mental health nurse, author and lifelong observer of human behaviour.
Her career in acute mental health and crisis work has brought her into countless conversations with people whose behaviour didn't always make sense at first.
Sometimes, one piece of information changed how an entire situation was understood.
Those moments stayed with her.
They sparked a growing curiosity about what happens before behaviour, and how easily that part of the story can be missed. That curiosity eventually became
The Behaviour Chain Principle, a way of understanding the many links between an experience and the behaviour we see.
Joanne has a particular respect for support workers. They often know the person in ways others don't. They share the ordinary days, hear the conversations and notice when something has changed.
Their observations can reveal important pieces of the bigger picture.
Today, Joanne writes to challenge the way we understand behaviour, encouraging people to look beyond what they see and consider what may have happened beforehand.
Her mission is simple: to encourage us to ask one more question before deciding we understand someone's behaviour.
What happened before this?
